Sector 17 is the city centre — the Plaza, the fountain, the long concrete arcades, the Parade Ground. It photographs beautifully and it is one of the harder places in Chandigarh to work, for one reason: people.
Bring a five-person crew and a lighting truck into Sector 17 and you will have an audience of forty inside ten minutes. Once that happens the couple stiffens and every frame looks posed, because it is.
So we do the opposite. Two people, two cameras, one small light. Start at 6:30 am when the Plaza is nearly empty. Move between locations rather than building a base. Finish before the shops open. It is less impressive to watch and it produces far better photographs.

Plenty of our Sector 17 work is indoors — receptions at the hotels around the centre. Those run as a standard evening booking: neutral lighting set before guests arrive, family groups organised in one block, 250 to 400 edited images from the evening, and a reel out early.
March, 6:35 am start. We had the fountain to ourselves for nearly forty minutes, moved through the arcades as the light came round, and were packing up by half nine as the first shutters went up. Two of us, one light, 210 edited frames. The couple said it was the least awkward shoot they had done.
