The National Cactus and Succulent Botanical Garden in Panchkula Sector 5 is among the largest of its kind in Asia. Sculptural plant forms, pale gravel beds and glasshouses — it photographs completely unlike anywhere else in the Tricity.
Almost every page on this site tells you to shoot at sunrise. This one does not.
Strong sun creates hard shadow across the plant forms, and hard shadow is exactly what makes a cactus look like a cactus. Soft dawn light flattens them into green blobs. Mid-morning genuinely works here, which makes it the easiest booking on our list for couples who cannot face a 5 am alarm.
We keep couples on the paths and use the beds as background rather than posing anyone among the spines. A lehenga and a cactus bed are a genuinely bad combination and it is not worth one photograph.
This is planned rather than improvised — we walk the route before the couple arrives and pick positions that are safe and still look close.
