A newborn shoot is the slowest job we do, and that is the whole trick. Three hours, most of it waiting. Rush it and you get a gallery of a baby being woken up.
Newborns sleep deeply and curl the way they did in the womb for roughly the first fortnight. That is what makes those photographs look the way they do, and it is not something skill can recreate later.
After about three weeks the baby is more awake, straighter, and less settled. Sessions still work, they just take longer and look different. If you are choosing a date, choose an early one.
